I started a small at home business last year, do I have to file this under my personal taxes?
I will be filing my business taxes seperately but wanted to know if I needed to file it under my personal taxes too?
If you are operating as a sole proprietor, You will use a schedule C which will be attached to your 1040.
If you are a Subchapter S corp, you will file that separately but will generate a K-1 that will be used to file your 1040.
If you are a C corp, it will file by itself and you will report any W-2 income or 1099 dividends you receive from it on your personal 1040.
If you are an LLC, you have already decided the business form you should use to file.
Hope this helps, good luck with that.

What is a fair price for an accountant to do my small business taxes?
I have everything in Quicken, along with all my paperwork. It shows all my utilities and bills and other things I can deduct. It’s already pretty organized. Plus my small business made under 10k last year. What would it cost to have my taxes done by a legit CPA?
I send my accountant a copy of my Quickbooks on a disk, and he charges me $1,600 for state and federal tax returns. I complete my own 1099's and W-2's, and quarterly 941's, so the $1,600 is just for the two annual returns. I give myself a large bonus at the end of the years so my company usually doesn't show any income. I think I my accountant might be a little over priced though.

How To Benefit The Most From Your Business Opportunity
The Internet is home of the business opportunity ad. Though several are not legit, others do have the possibility of meshing you a pretty penny. Once you have found such an opportunity, it is important that you make the most of it – but to do so intelligently, you will need to examine a few tips and tricks that will not only benefit you to make money, but also save you from losing any of your hard earned cash in the process.
As soon as you start out in pursuit of your business opportunity, you will need to manage your full time job and your additional pursuit. Although it might be alluring to throw concern to the wind, give up your job and pursue the opportunity full time, it is tremendously unwise to do so. You will still have bills, and if you have a family, it is unfair to expect them to suddenly make do without the modest extras they have come to appreciate. Rather, go ahead and work your regular job while growing your business opportunity. This will thwart you from having to give up after a few unproductive months with maxed out credit cards.
Growing a business takes time, and if you engage friends and family, you will probably be able to do so a lot sooner. Certainly, this should not mean that you try to sell your dietary supplements that are part of the business you are building at every family get-together. Instead, you may be able to involve some family members in the business end itself. Do you need help with taxes? Maybe an uncle is good at doing them! Do you have questions about licenses and insurance? If you have a stay at home dad who is prepared to do some work in exchange for a bit of money, these headaches could be taken away from you. In short, it is unusual for an entrepreneur to make all the money by her or himself from the basement, yet plentiful is the entrepreneur who – with the help of friends and family – succeeded!
Your business opportunity needs publicity, however there is more to advertising than paying for a three by five ad in the local rag. Instead, attend trade shows, hand out flyers, print up business cards (not the free ones that carry another company’s logo on the back) and network with other entrepreneurs. Do not stay home when you are trying to build a business, but instead go to where the business world is situated and get out the word! This ensures that you will truly create the most of your business opportunity without having to use money you might not yet have earned on costly advertisements that might not be as effective as you had hoped.

How To Outsource Your Online Business – Increase Your Profits By Doing Less Work
You’re better than me at Adwords. I’m better than you at list-building. Harry Potter’s better than both of us at magic. The point is, no-one can be perfect at everything and if your business is to grow beyond a mere “mom & pop store” then at some point you’ll need to start delegating responsibility and delve confidently into the world of EMPLOYING people. Someone creates your content. Someone else your website. Another markets. And you? Well you’re scooping up the profits and repeating the whole process with another project. And then another.
For the internet business entrepreneur, by far the best way of hiring is through OUTSOURCING. Here’s a small sample of the type of work that can be outsourced:
- Development of custom-built software & content.
- Customer support.
- Internet marketing.
- Site development.
- Graphic design.
- Creation of business plans/forecasts/research reports.
- Accounting.
I could go on for pages but you get the idea. While outsourcing tends to be associated mostly with huge companies it’s every bit as important to the small internet business entrepreneur. Consider these advantages of implementing outsourcing into your business:
- “Saving time”. Are you trying to do *everything* yourself? This may seem noble to you, and undoubtedly you ought to gain as much practical experience into how things need to be done in your business in case of emergencies. But after a time, if you’re doing a lot of menial tasks then you’re cheating yourself out of time you could be using to do the things that a CEO of a company should be doing to grow the business. Do you reckon Bill Gates sits down every week to do his own search engine optimisation? No, his team handles it for him. What about you? If you can identify the parts of your business that are taking up way too much time, you can potentially seek to outsource them.
- “Cost Effective”. With outsourcing, you only pay for services as and when you need them. In a lot of traditional businesses that employ their own staff this is not so. Often, there is over-capacity so old Dave is having a nice cuppa and reading Sports Illustrated and you’re paying him by the hour to do it. Not so with Outsourcing – you pay only for what you need. Further, when you hire staff you have to deal with additional costings such as insurance and taxes. This is simply too much to handle for a small business – again, something that isn’t a factor with outsourcing.
- “Let The Professionals Handle It”. Certain elements of your business need to be handled by the pro’s if you don’t have the required skills or experience to do it yourself. When you outsource to a reliable professional, you’re ensuring that the job is done right by someone who has the know-how.
So how can you get started growing your business by outsourcing? First, you need to take a long hard look at your own business and pin-point those areas that are either taking too long to complete, aren’t being done properly, or aren’t being done at all.

Remaining Sound While Opening A Home Business
Opening a new business can be a agitated experience. There are a innumerable amounts of decisions to be made, the budget needs to be extended, the new secretary leaves before the end of the first week: the struggles are nonstop. When opening a business from your home, you can add a slew of unique disputes to the list. Being alert of the potential pitfalls, and getting ready for them can offer a way of preserving your good sense.
Friends and family members regularly presume that if you are home, you are obtainable. Nothing can set your work back hours, faster than an unintentional visit from your mother. Laying down clear boundaries regarding your timetable and availability for phone calls and visits can avoid misunderstandings early on in the life of your business.
If you are deciding to keep your small kids home with you while you work, then a carefully planned timetable can rapidly become fodder for your three year old. Waking up early is often the best way to enhance your productivity while those little angels are still asleep.
Having a emergency plan for days when the work load requires more concentration than usual is an outstanding way to top off disasters before they happen. Find local babysitters who are keen to come to your home to help out when required. Employ friends and family to provide infrequent entertainment for short periods of time to allow you to work without interruptions. Whatever thing that helps you keep alert is a good investment in preserving a sound mind.
Running a business from your home has a few benefits, especially at tax time. Contacting a tax expert or accountant before time on will arm you with the knowledge necessary to save you time and money when filing your first year’s business taxes.
Finding service providers that are both capable and dependable is a lesson in perseverance. The business directories, internet advertisements, and even newspaper ads are congested with scams and incapable providers. Looking for the suggestions of a seasoned home business veteran can be your salvation. Word of mouth will reveal strengths and problems with service providers.
If you discover that you have chosen poorly and end up with a full sized, ten year old fax machine in your den instead of that sleek, all-in-one model with all the bells and whistles that you paid for, don’t anguish. Don’t back down either. You can explain your disappointment firmly and politely while explaining that the services were not satisfactory. If after bringing the slip-up to the business’ attention, you are still left feeling cold, you can report the lawbreaker to the Better Business Bureau: and call for legal advice.
Using good old common sense, a little street smarts and a lot of charm and sincerity will help your achieve your business goals, while allowing you to keep your sanity and your home life unharmed.

What’s Stopping You Starting Your Own Business?
More people than ever before are looking to start their own business. Having your own business is generally accepted as the only way of making yourself a fortune, unless you marry or inherit money. Unfortunately many people are held back by two factors:
A) the employee mentality, and
B) most people have not developed their ability to generate business ideas.
Let us deal with each one in turn.
A) There are many reasons why an employee should want to start a business but three are worth thinking about.
i) The difference between having your own business and having a job is the difference between buying a house and renting a house. If you rent a house you have all the satisfaction of living in a house, but at the end of the day you own nothing and can be evicted as quickly as you became a tenant. A job is just like a renting a house. However, your own business depends on you, because you are its owner, and at the end of the day it may leave you with considerable personal wealth.
ii) You are a unique person. The vast majority of employers do not recognise your uniqueness. It is said the universe is twenty billion years old and will last at least as long again. In all the time to come there will never be another person just like you. You are a unique creation. How does an employer treat a unique creation like you? They make you fit into a box where the walls are your job description. Many people before you had to fit into the same box and many people after you will have to do the same. You were not created to spend your life following orders, doing repetitive tasks and being just like other people. Your own business offers you the opportunity to make unique achievements, to build a unique business, which mirrors your personality, and to stamp the world with your mark.
iii) If you do not want to start a business to create personal wealth or to satisfy your ego then start a business to help other people. Every time a person offers others a new product or service, he or she increases their freedom of choice. There is not a better way to help other people than by giving them more freedom. With the extra freedom, the jobs created and extra taxes paid, it could be argued that founding a successful business is the most socially useful thing anyone can do. Instead of choosing between i), ii) or iii) as a reason for starting a business, all three become interlocked and are a consequence of a successful business.
B) Most people unfamiliar with starting a business struggle to generate business ideas. Probably the best advice anyone can offer you if you are trying to decide what type of business to start, is to go with what you know and love. If your business is a chore and not your passion it will be little better than a job. But if you love what you do, ideas come easily and problems find solutions much more readily. What the successful business start-up does is effectively combine a personal passion with a ‘want’ shared by many.
If you are still hesitating just think on this: the only difference between you and a successful entrepreneur is that they took a risk and, above all, took action. Action is the key to success. Without action, your idea will never be anything more than an electrical impulse locked away in your brain.
