How to raise venture capital for a startup business?
How to find venture capital for a software startup? I want to send my business plan to venture capital firms. Any advice?
Getting VC financing is very difficult particularly in the current economic environment. They are looking for the combination of a compelling product/technology and the technical and managerial talent to make it a reality. It is often more about the team and your ability to build a business around either a new technology, product(s) or a powerful business model that it is a specific idea.
Its important to understand that VCs primarily invest in great management teams and/or exceptional technologists. So, if you don't have the background, I strongly recommend you get it before pitching your idea. Generally, you need to have either several years of senior corporate experience in the right area for your venture or be a technical expert in the field of your products/business model. If you don't want to wait until you acquire the knowledge yourself, you need to recruit it into your team.
If you've got the goods, research the vc firms to find those that invest in your product/business area. Then, network to get a referral if possible. It is much better to get a referral than mailing your plan in. VCs get hundreds of busines plans & pitches and it is very hard to standout if you mail it in. Make sure you are really prepared with a well-thought presentation and be prepared to answer questions about your market and competition. Good luck.

If a company has no venture capital, is that a red flag? Should I not invest?
I am thinking about investing in a particular company that is supposedly in its IPO stage. I was told that the company has no venture capital and that the CEO (who is a billionaire) has invested his own money into the company. How do I find out if the company is actually in its underwriting stage to ensure that it is going public?
There are a bunch of sites you can go to such as Lehman brothers.com or go straight to the SEC site. If they truly plan on going public then they should have already filed their papers with the SEC which is all public information. Moreover, what kind of company is it? How important is expansion capital? Lastly, Take a look at their 8-k/q and 10-k/q reports to see their plans for the next year

Where can I find venture capital firms that typically invest in China?
I want to search online first to get venture capital firms that are interested in investing to manufacturing companies in China. Do you know which websites are good for them?
Most venture funds have a China focus, so it is not hard to find a fund that will invest in China.
However, I've included a link to Orrick's overview.

Where can I find and entry level position in a Venture Capital Firm?
I am a finance graduate currently working in accounting. I would love to get involved in a venture capital firm. I am located outside of Philadelphia. An info would be great. Thnaks
VC's pretty hard to break into without an inside connection. Network around your business community with any vc you can meet and anyone in the accounting field who serves vc backed companies. Also, try reading venture wire and keeping track of those funds that have been raised within the last 90 days. There's no silver bullet.
Last suggestion: go to Stanford for business school.

how do i get a job in Venture Capital?
I am looking to break into Venture Capital and work for a VC/Private Equity shop. I have been working in a Corporate Accounting/Auditing postion for 3 years.
I can think of 3 ways…
1. If your background is in accounting, you may need more education in Finance. A CFA or Chartered Financial Analyst certification will help. Or an MBA as well.
2. Networking, networking, networking. Easy to say, hard to do. But understand this, most of these firms get tons of resumes each day, you need to know people to get in.
3. Bring them an investment idea. Perhaps you know a private company in your town with great potential and looking for money to expand. That's what VC does. Show them you can help them find new businesses to invest in.
